Currently, Russia dominates the field of race walking. The top six female world records for the 20-kilometer race are held by Russians, while the 20-kilometer and 50-kilometer world records are both held by Russian men. Although many people have petitioned the IAAF to allow women to compete in the 50-kilometer race, it is still not allowed under current rules. The London Olympics will feature the men’s 20-kilometer and 50-kilometer walk, as well as the women’s 20-kilometer race walk.
